ADBA Point Shows
How do you measure success?  Is success how much money one makes or, is it
as simple as achieving one’s goal?  Mid Florida is an American Dog Breeders
Association (ADBA) sanctioned club, and although we feel a responsibility and
do actively reach out to our community to educate on behalf of our dogs, our
primary goal is to host an ADBA point show annually.  There have been times
in this clubs’ history when this has not been achieved.  Although Mid Florida
did not bank any surplus resulting from this years’ point show we got it done
and with class.  To all of those who came and brought their dogs out for
competition, we thank you.  The total number of dogs participating may have
been lower than we had hoped, the competition was tough.  Without a doubt
there were A LOT of very nice looking dogs!  We appreciate and thank you for
choosing to spend your Thanksgiving weekend with us.  We worked hard to
make your time with us enjoyable.  And, with that being said I personally
must thank all of our members who gave so willingly and selflessly of their
time and energy.  Most started early Friday morning and didn’t stop until
Sunday night.  And, fellow club members, Saturday night is ALWAYS A
BLAST!
Now, for a few details.  2008, we opened the weekend with Joanie Winchester
from DeFuniak Springs, Florida judging 108 registered dogs.  Best Puppy was
given to Towles’ Pretty Boy.  Champions’ Cup went to Harrison’s Swamp
Magic.  Best of Opposite was Gaton’s Scream Telleria.  And Best of Show was
awarded to Valhalla’s Draco.  Our second show on Saturday was judged by Gary
Hammonds from Texas.  Gary is renowned in our dogs and regularly writes
articles in the ADBA Gazatte magazine, and has published a book of his own.
We had 84 registered dogs for Gary to look-over for Saturday’s second show.
Best Puppy was once again awarded to Towles’ Pretty Boy.  Champions’ Cup
went to Steal Heart’s Champion Lexie.  Best of Opposite went to Vahalla’s
Draco, and Best of Show went to Anthony’s Bella.
Following our second conformation show on Saturday we had the pleasure of
hosting a Judging seminar conducted by Hank Greenwood.  I wish everyone
could have stayed!  It was very informative, detailed, and certainly
enlightened everyone who attended.  Now we know what those judges are
looking for!
For me personally the highlight of the evening was a touching presentation
made by Hank Greenwood to our very own Bill Trumpler.  I cannot begin to
tell you the number of years Bill Trumpler has been dedicated to the dogs.
And, the number of people he has helped along the way.  Midnight Cowboy
and Old Family Red Nose lines are his specialty!  Bill Trumpler has always
been instrumental to Mid Florida APBTA from the very beginning  many,
many years ago, and has also been an ADBA sanctioned judge for many years.
Hank graciously presented Bill with a beautiful gold pit bull lapel pin in honor
of 15 years of judging for the ADBA.
Our Sunday show was dedicated to the Endangered Breeds Association and
judged by Hank Greenwood.  We had only 69 registered dogs for this show and
with a portion of the proceeds dedicated to the Endangered Breeds Association
this was a disappointment.  Bad weather with high winds and tornados was
moving in on us quickly so Hank gave every dog a good look-over and moved
thru these events in an effort to get us all on the road to home.  Best Puppy
was awarded to Full Force Kennel’s Eve, Champions’ Cup was taken by Goode’s
Grand Champion Isley, Best of Opposite went to Rowell’s Dixie, and Best of
Show was awarded to Rowell’s Turbo.
