We are a non-profit organization sanctioned by the American Dog Breeders Association (ADBA), a registry for the American Pit Bull Terrier since 1909. It is our mission to preserve the American Pit Bull Terrier from the past, here for today, and walk with them into the future as America’s most versatile dog. We plan to do this not in spite of their history and infamous bloodlines, but because of their history and bloodlines. For it is the great dogs and the dog men of the past who have entrusted to us the dogs we feed, the dogs we laugh at and play with, and the dogs we love today. We must never loose sight of that. Knowledge is a powerful thing. Know that the American Pit Bull Terrier, past and present, should be solid and steady in mind, body and spirit. We will not, and cannot, be embarrassed nor apologize for the history of this breed. Every breed has a history or original purpose for which it was bred. For it is that very history that placed these dogs where they are today, and where they will find themselves in the future. What we, owners of the American Pit Bull Terrier know is that these dogs are moving forward into new territory; the realm of search and rescue, service dogs, therapy dogs, bomb/drug sniffing and they are moving in these directions quickly. They can excel not only in the conformation show ring and on the weight pull track, but also in disc trials, obedience, agility, fly-ball, dock- diving and still come home and be your coach potato, bed hog, and all around loving and playful pet. What Mid Florida APBTA will never loose sight of is the fact the ADBA conformation standard makes for a well conditioned, athletic, high drive and high performance American Pit Bull Terrier. So, as an ADBA sanctioned club, first and foremost we will host an annual two day point show each year consisting of fun events, conformation dog shows and a weight pull competitions as well as our monthly fun shows (see our fun show tab for more details). We will work tirelessly to share this breeds’ sound temperament, beauty, intelligence, athleticism, high drive and performance, their tenaciousness to accomplish any task, and finally their clownish behavior with all who wish to see. We also take great pride in our community involvement such as participating in the Florida State Fair Pure Bred Dog Exhibit, the AKC Responsible Dog Owner’s Day, Pit Bull Awareness Day, and dog bite prevention seminars along the way! The purpose of Mid Florida APBTA is to be as versatile as our dogs by continuing to develop activities for everyone to enjoy; dog and owner. We will continue to look for ways to make our organization interesting, informative, and entertaining by introducing new and varied activities along the way, so keep a watch on our Upcoming Events tab! We strive to create a positive environment whereby all American Pit Bull Terriers, non- papered or papered, spayed or neutered, or the very special rescue dog, and owners alike are made to feel welcome. You can find us the third Saturday of every month at Veteran’s Memorial Park, Tampa, Florida. Come on out and ‘make a day of it’ with us! |
